Highlights
got to see a reliever new to the school and class in action, find out about their resourses and what is expected from them.
Teaching my guided reading lesson. i was well prepard for this, had to deal with one girls behavioural issue.
Taught my first lesson in shared writing with no spelling mistakes! For anyone that knows how terrible i am at spelling this is amazing! i am working hard at learning to spell, however i had a dictionary on hand just incase. i think i also hit my learning intensions! i feel really good. same girl played up a bit. I decided to teach lesson out side.
I think the group responds to me well as after the lesson they asked if they can do it again next week with me. Makes me feel good. I just hope they actually learn something from it. I recorded both lessons to do futher reflection on my teacher at home and fill in my evaluation.
spending one on one time with a student that struggles with writing, hearing his ideas and watching him sound out the sounds of words and writing a really cool story. reminds me why i want to be a teacher.
i have developed a teacher voice. haha makes me laugh as it is quite serious and firm when someone is misbehaving. its very not like me but i sort of like it. when i use it the kids know to stop doing what they are doing.
Challenges
had one girl tear up because i told her she wasnt being respectful during the lesson. that wasnt fun but we worked it out then she was fine.
the second lesson i had with her she still misbehaved. She apoligised to me after the lesson. I said that its not accecptible and that if she wants to work in the group again she needs to prove to me that she can be a team player.
time management to get lessons done. in both my guided reading and shared writing i went over in time. i wanted both lessons to be 20mins but ended up being longer due to too much student discussion and me being to focused on covering every teaching point in depth.
What I learnt.
That good kids can play up for teachers they dont have a relationship with.
That very few children actually like reading and writing.
that control of a class is key to productivity! not a lot got done while the class was running riot.
that teaching a group isnt scary! they dont know that i am nervous or that i dont really know what im talking about, they listen to me. but i also think this is because the students in this class have developed a good relationship with me, and see me as a second teacher in their class. at this stage i think i will ask my AT if i can take a couple of full class lessons in practicum. my planning is easy to follow and i think i am gaining confidence in being infront of the kids.
was an unorganised class for the two days but i got a lot out of it. personal refelction being the most important, and feeling successful.
